Chopta (2680 m) is an unspoiled natural destination lying in the lap of the Uttarakhand Himalayas and offers views of the imposing Himalayan range including Trishul, Nanda Devi and Chaukhamba. Chopta village is surrounded by forests of pine, deodar and rhododendron and is rich in flora and fauna include rare species of birds and musk deer. The entire region belongs to the Temperature zone, in winter, most of area is covered to snow. Many variety of Lichens grwo here on wood, soil and rock substrates. Its hilly slopes at mid-to high-altitudes and bugyals (alpine meadows) exist at the higher altitudes. This landscape has one of the richest bird diversities. The area has identification of over 240 bird species and declared Important Bird Area (BNHS and BirdLife International)

Himalayan Swiftlet, Crested Goshwawak, Snow Partridge, Himalayan Griffon, Mountain Hawk Eagle, Golden Eye, Hill Partidge, Koklas Pheasant, Himalayan Monal, Maroon Orilo, Cheer pheasant, Long-billed and Pied Thrush, Chestnut-Crowned Warbler, Scarlet Finch, Sport-winged Rosefinch etc more than 200 birds found here.

How to Reach

By road, you can come first Haridwar city or Rishikesh. from Rishikesh a scenic motorable road (200 km) running along river Ganga, Alaknanda, Bhagirathi  on different places. You can find GMVN society buses ply on this route, hire shared Maxi Cab and taxis to reach there. Chopta is a hill station, located on the Rudraprayag – Ukhimath – Gopeshwar Highway. Chopta is situated 33 kms from Ukhimath and 68 kms from Rudraprayag.
