Overview

Ranthambore National Park is one of the biggest and most famous national parks in Northern India, spread over 392 sq km in the Sawai Madhopur district of southeastern Rajasthan. Located about 130 km from Jaipur, this park was once the royal hunting ground of the Maharajas of Jaipur. Today, Ranthambore is a top wildlife tourism destination, drawing photographers, nature lovers, and wildlife enthusiasts from all over the world.

The park is well known for its thriving population of the majestic Bengal Tiger, one of the most iconic and revered animals in India. Being a Project Tiger reserve, Ranthambore is home to a significant number of tigers that are often seen during daytime as they roam, hunt, and nurture their cubs. According to the National Tiger Conservation Authority’s 2022 report, India hosts about 70% of the world’s tiger population, with Ranthambore Tiger Reserve ranking among the world’s most prominent tiger sanctuaries.

Ranthambore’s forest landscapes include dry deciduous forests, grasslands, and several lakes, surrounded by sanctuaries such as Mansingh and Kaila Devi. The park also shelters a rich variety of wildlife including leopards, sloth bears, hyenas, deer species like sambar and spotted deer, nilgai (blue bull), and various smaller mammals like jungle cats and foxes. Reptiles such as Indian pythons, cobras, and marsh crocodiles also inhabit the park.

For bird lovers, Ranthambore offers over 300 recorded bird species, including woodpeckers, flamingos, pelicans, storks, mynas, falcons, and owls. With easy access, beautiful natural surroundings, and a high chance of tiger sightings, Ranthambore is a must-visit for wildlife watchers. The park is divided into 10 zones, with zones 1 through 6 being popular for safaris. The best time to visit is during the dry months from October to June when animals gather around lakes and waterholes, making sightings even easier.

Ranthambore’s historical Ranthambore Fort, ancient temples, and rich cultural heritage add a unique charm to your wildlife safari experience, making it much more than just a nature trip.
