Itinerary

Day 1: Reed Beds, Bittern Spot & Trails

  • We start at the leafy reeds area, home to many small birds. Here, we find Eurasian Wryneck, Red Avadavat, Scaly-breasted Munia, Tricolored Munia, Plain Prinia, Ashy Prinia, Delicate Prinia, Zitting Cisticola, Pied Bushchat, Siberian Stonechat, Bluethroat, Striated Babbler, Black Drongo, and Purple Sunbird.
  • At the bittern spot filled with reeds, especially in monsoon, we look out for Watercock, Black Bittern, Yellow Bittern, Cinnamon Bittern, and Little Bittern. Great Bittern may visit randomly. In winters, Yellow-bellied Prinia, Blyth’s Reed Warbler, Clamorous Reed Warbler, Moustached Warbler, Paddyfield Warbler, Black-breasted Weaver, and Streaked Weaver are seen.
  • Walking along the dirt path and trails, we spot Eurasian Wryneck, Red Avadavat, Delicate Prinia, Barred Buttonquail, and Little Grebe in nearby water tanks.
  • We also find Sind Sparrows nesting in the tree near the main road, and see Wire-tailed Swallows flying overhead.

Day 2: Wetlands, Waterbodies, Waders, and Raptors

  • We visit the main waterbodies supporting a variety of birds including Pheasant-tailed Jacana, Bronze-winged Jacana, Greater Flamingo, Painted Stork, Woolly-necked Stork, Sarus Crane, and sometimes Black-necked Stork.
  • On the water edges and shallow pools, we find Little Ringed Plover, Kentish Plover, Black-tailed Godwit, Common, Wood, Green, and Marsh Sandpipers, Temminck’s Stint, Little Stint, Common Greenshank, Spotted Redshank, Common Redshank, Pied Avocet, Black-headed Ibis, Red-naped Ibis.
  • Around here, we encounter Baya Weaver, Sind Sparrow, Long-tailed Shrike, and Isabelline Shrike.
  • The wetland’s ducks and geese include Bar-headed Goose, Greylag Goose, Ruddy Shelduck, Northern Shoveler, Northern Pintail, Gadwall, Garganey, Eurasian Wigeon, Green-winged Teal, Common Pochard, Red-crested Pochard, and sometimes Mallard.
  • We enjoy sightings of River Tern, Whiskered Tern, Black-headed Gull, Brown-headed Gull, Pallas’s Gull, Small Pratincole, Oriental Pratincole, and Greater Flamingo.
  • Raptors seen soaring above include Marsh Harrier, Booted Eagle, Greater Spotted Eagle, Eurasian Sparrowhawk, Bonelli’s Eagle, Eastern Imperial Eagle, White-eyed Buzzard, Long-legged Buzzard, Common Buzzard, Eurasian Kestrel, and Red-necked Falcon.
  • Bee-eaters and swallows brighten the skies with Blue-tailed Bee-eater, Blue-cheeked Bee-eater, Green Bee-eater, Wire-tailed Swallow, Red-rumped Swallow, Barn Swallow, Streak-throated Swallow, and Gray-throated Martin.
